Premier to Attend Committee on Internal Trade Meeting in Iqaluit
CANADA, August 26 - Premier Tim Houston will present more opportunities to remove barriers to internal trade and labour mobility at the Committee on Internal Trade meeting in Nunavut.
The meeting in Iqaluit on Thursday, August 27, will focus on practical ways to make it easier for goods, services, investment and workers to move across provincial and territorial borders.
“Now more than ever, with Trump’s tariffs, we need to remove any remaining barriers between provinces and territories, help us mitigate the effects of global uncertainty, and create more opportunity for businesses, workers and consumers. Canada has talked about this for decades but now we are helping turn it into action,” said Premier Tim Houston. “Our Province has been leading the way on internal trade from the beginning, and we are seeing momentum at a critical time in our country’s history.”
Nova Scotia will lead a discussion on labour mobility, including digital credentials for tradespeople and recognition of key health and safety requirements in the construction sector.
The Premier will also take part in discussions on the first ministers’ commitment to a unified Team Canada approach, including progress made, work still to be done and next steps to strengthen Canada’s economy.
More than $530 billion worth of goods and services moves across provincial and territorial borders every year – equal to 20 per cent of Canada’s gross domestic product.
